Phillips, L.G. (2012). Retribution and rebellion: Children’s meaning making of justice through storytelling. International Journal of Early Childhood, 44(2), 141-156.

Louise discusses the possibilities for developing young children’s citizenship through her experiences of social justice storytelling. Working with a class of young children, Louise found that their affective responses to her storytelling revealed desires for retribution and rebellion as two significant themes. Louise explores these themes by identifying possible narrative influences, ultimately reframing the children’s actions and comments as life stories of citizenship practice.
