Phillips, L.G. (2011). Possibilities and quandaries for young children’s active citizenship. Early Education and Development, 22(5), 778-794.

The ambiguity in contemporary policy around children’s citizenship rights has led to the question of what the concept of children’s citizenship actually means. To help address this question, Louise uses social justice storytelling to demonstrate the possibilities and quandaries for young children’s active citizenship. She achieves this through an analysis of children’s comments and actions in response to live storytelling that focused on the unfair treatment of others. Louise discusses the implications of these potentialities for those working in early childhood education and citizenship spaces.
