Phillips, L. (2011, Autumn). Young children’s active community participation. In the Loop. 14-16.

Louise discusses what active community participation might mean for young children, as provoked through storytelling. Stories are an effective way to captivate interest and connect directly with children’s hearts and minds, creating a space where they might respond to stories as active citizens. Her experiences of storytelling foregrounded children’s passion for justice and the diversity and complexity with which they displayed active community participation, which is so often limited by predominant discourses of children as still developing and therefore needing to be protected.
