In this feature article, Louise presents arguments to support a vision of storytelling that goes beyond simple entertainment for children. She argues that storytelling is fundamental to the development of both oral and written literacy as a story can open the door to deeper understandings of narrative, literacy conventions, genre, and a child’s ‘sense of story’, while enhancing reading skills.
